Family Rescue Center
Serving those in need… with Food, Clothing, Medical and Educational Services that Encourage Independence
What We Do:
We serve individuals and families in need in the West Valley by providing food, clothing, medical and educational services, as well as referrals as needed. Our ultimate goal is to sustain people in desperate circumstances, empowering them to achieve personal and financial independence. We serve individuals and families in the West Valley by providing, at no cost to receiver:
- Food Distribution
- Secondhand Clothing
- Holiday Food & Toy Distribution
- Medical Screenings and Lessons
- Referrals to Other Service Agencies
Besides distributing food and clothing to a registered “client” base, RESCATE offers computer classes teaching basic computer knowledge and office administration software.
Family Rescue Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit entity. We receive support from the West Valley Food Pantry, churches, some private foundations and businesses, service clubs, and individuals. The ministry is directed by a Board of Directors, made up of men and women with a heart for the poor.
Special Events:
In addition to the food we distribute every week we have Back to School, Thanksgiving and Christmas events that provide food, toys, school supplies, clothing and hope for those in need.
History:
The Family Rescue Center (RESCATE) was started in 1998 to provide support for the collection and distribution of food and clothing to low-income and homeless families in the predominately Hispanic community of Canoga Park and surrounding communities. Through the ongoing collection and purchase of foodstuffs and collection of clean, usable clothing and household items, RESCATE has been able to serve needy members of the community without having to turn them away. From 2000 through 2007, the numbers of individuals served annually has grown from 400 to over 5,000 annually.
