This month, we launched our new shower location in Canoga Park at the West Valley Food Pantry. Through our partnership, we will be able to provide many more showers, meals, and case management support each year to those in need. #DignityonWheels
Here is a really good explanation of the issues of helping and dealing with the homeless in our community, told by one person's story. Over 30% increase in people experiencing homelessness in our West San Fernando Valley area in the past year. Family Rescue Center seeks to help with weekly food covering one day's meals, referrals to sites offering hot meals and showers, and case by case assistance for those willing to seek an alternative.
Thank you Dave and Kristy Moorman for organizing a food and clothing drive for us through the Agoura Hills Community Service Days! And thanks to our volunteers who helped unload and store the wonderful donations today!
A group of WBI #barberstudent and #cosmetologystudent went out to provide free haircuts for the homeless this weekend! #westernbarberinstitute #barberschool #cosmetologyschool #beautyschool #cosmetology #babering #barberlife #cosmolife #haircuts #freehaircutsforthehomeless #freehaircuts #healthyhair #community http://ift.tt/2ovt44q
Thank you so much to all who volunteered on Saturday at the Family Rescue Center Easter Festival! You gave your hearts so fully to hundreds of homeless and low-income children and families who deserved the hope and encouragement that you offered them! Thank you for using your gifts and talents to bring joy to others! A big shout out to Western Beauty Institute for giving free haircuts to those who cannot normally afford professional cuts. We loved seeing big smiles on the children & families at the event! We could never pull this event off without all of the generous donations of so many, and without the serving hearts of our volunteers! THANK YOU!!! ?
At least once a month volunteer Susan Gorman-Chang brings a carload of fresh food for our hungry families all the way from Sylmar. This month that included milk, squash, melons, apples and other nutritious items. Thank you Susan and all the other wonderful donors and volunteers helping to fight hunger in our community.
Thank you Canoga Park Presbyterian Church and generous neighbors for collecting/donating about 80 lbs. of food and 40 lbs. of clothing/hygiene items for us this weekend! Great to get the word out about our services and donation needs!
Corina's 4th grade son has homework that needs a computer, but they did not have one nor money to buy one. Roger Williams in the Health Office arranged for Intel to donate this one for the family. They are thrilled!

Thank you sooo much to all who donated toys/gifts/money, to all who shopped and helped set up the "toy store" on Friday, and to all who volunteered on Saturday at the Family Rescue Center Christmas toy drive event. It truly takes a village to pull this off, and we are so grateful for each and every one of you! Happy Holidays and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
We are ready!!!! Over 1,000 toys are organized and ready to be welcomed into the arms of the homeless and low-income children who will be coming to the Family Rescue Center Christmas toy drive event tomorrow morning! Thank you sooo much to all who volunteered today and to all who donated toys, gift cards or money to help make this event extra special for the children of FRC! We can't wait to see their smiling faces tomorrow! And if you would like to volunteer at the event, come join us at Family Rescue Center at 8:30 AM tomorrow, December 17th.
Wow! Thank you so much, Turning Point Church, for collecting almost 600 toys & gift cards and also monetary donations to help make this Saturday's Christmas toy drive extra special for the almost 1,000 homeless and low income children of Family Rescue Center who registered to receive a toy this year. We couldn't do it without the generous support from you and so many others in our wonderful community! It truly takes a village to get enough toys and gifts for this many children, and we are getting very close to our goal! (If anyone would like to donate toys, gift cards or a monetary donation towards this Saturday's toy drive, please contact us.)
Such a great idea! A couple from Rocky Peak Church hosted a Christmas party at their home last night. Instead of doing a white elephant gift exchange with their guests, they asked that each guest bring one unwrapped toy which will go to a child at the Family Rescue Center toy drive (this upcoming Fri, 16th and Sat, 17th). We are so encouraged to see our local community coming up with creative ways to give to the children of FRC. Every little bit makes a HUGE difference and contributes to a beautiful group effort! Thank you, Ted Dall and Gail VanDyke!
We have partnered with Family Rescue Center to provide box meals for families in need. Help us reach our goal of serving 1,000 meals this Holiday Season!

Please donate toys for the 800+ low income and homeless children of Family Rescue Center. We need them by Dec 15 for setup, distribution day is Saturday, Dec 17. Drop off at 22103 Vanowen St., Canoga Park or message me. Thanks and happiest of holidays to all of you!
A big thank you to Gail, Ted, and the rest of their Rocky Peak Church life group for the very generous monetary donations and food donations... you have made a big difference this Thanksgiving for so many Family Rescue Center children and families!
A little glimpse of the wonderful work that all of the giving volunteers were doing yesterday at Family Rescue Center, in preparation for hundreds of homeless and low income families that would be coming the next day for Thanksgiving food.
It's time! Volunteers needed TODAY!
Come join us (Thurs, the 17th) as we begin putting together Thanksgiving food packages for approx. 550 homeless and low income families in the San Fernando Valley! We need volunteers Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Family Rescue Center (22103 Vanowen St, Canoga Park; on the corner of Glade and Vanowen).
2016 FRC Thanksgiving volunteer times:
*Thurs, 17th: 12:00-5:00 (counting food donations and then shopping for more)
*Fri, 18th: 10:00-4:00 (organizing and bagging food items)
*Sat, 19th: 8:30am-1:30pm (distributing food to the families)
All are welcome!
And yes, we still need food donations such as frozen turkeys, beans, canned vegetables, cooking oil, flour, sugar and more.
